Hi everyone,

did anyone of you come up with a nice way to generate room lasers like in this render?

Essentially, I need laser lines across walls and objects.

I'm placing an Octane light into a very tight pyramid but I'm not too happy with the results.

Hi,

I do this using an ImageTexture in Distribution and scaling it very low on the Y axis using Projection:

Increasing the Beam Width user data (found on the Laser Crosshair Null) widens the beam (the multiplier is if you want it extra thin or fat):

The vertical one is just rotated in the Texture UVW transform but you can do it by rotating the Light itself.

That looks fantastic. Would you mind sharing your scene file. I can't really get there. I tried using an image texture with two black bars and a slit in between but the result are odd.

I forgot to attach the file to the post - I've updated it and the link is at the bottom.

One extra thing to take into account is the size of the actual source - scaling it up and down is like focusing a projector, so for pin-sharp the source needs to be very small.

I don't think I will ever need this, but it is definitely cool to check out that scene - thanks!

New PPM (Progressive Photon Mapping) kernel will solve problems for the source of laser, of dot light... But only maybe new OR v4. :)
