Here is one quick and dirty test with conifer tree. For some reason i ended up with just one material for this tree in octane( there should be 7) but i decided to play around with diffuse transmision channel. Here are results. Outstanding stuff for adding variety to leaves or needles in this case:) I'll do few more tests and post results.

The subtles shades and variations in the color make it very realistic looking ;)

And you say its only 1 material for all the tree ? :shock:

Just one dark gray material. Other colors are from hdri light and fake sss.

Hi Tugpsx. It's basically same material/light setup as in my previous tests. I'm glad you like the results:) I didn't save original SS before I cropped it so i ran new test with similar settings.

P.S. I forgot to mention that is very important to have geometry with no thickness in oreder for fake sss to work properly.
