Hey everyone!

I’m excited to share a project I’ve been working on that showcases the power of Vectron in OctaneRender for Blender. In this demo, I’ve explored the flexibility of procedural shapes combined with procedural materials to create intricate, abstract forms without relying on traditional mesh geometry. This approach not only keeps the project lightweight but also opens up endless possibilities for customization.

What's inside the project file?

A Vectron-based procedural setup, demonstrating how to generate shapes using mathematical functions and boolean operations.
Procedural materials applied to the geometry, showcasing how you can blend textures and materials for complex surface details.
A clean node setup to help you understand how Vectron works and how to easily tweak it to fit your needs.

Why this project might be useful for you:

If you're new to Vectron, this project will give you a good starting point to understand its procedural nature.
For seasoned users, this file could inspire new ways to incorporate procedural materials and geometry into your workflow.

Requirements:

Blender 4.2 LTS or later
OctaneRender for Blender plugin
Basic understanding of Octane’s node system

Feel free to download the project file and experiment with it. I’m happy to answer any questions you might have or hear about how you’ve used the file in your own projects!

I've OctaneBlender Addon 29.13 Beta Release [TEST] Prime edition (NOTE: stable hasn't Prime ediiton yet).

"Show Octane Viewport" is ok at default Vectron nodes settings. I deleted 2 *Universal* materials and I added 2 *Specular* materials for 2 spheres... but "Show Octane Viewport" doesn't respond as "freeze" issue. :(
NOTE: I'm sorry for bad english due to mute ;)

Hi,

Please never use Show Octane Viewport when working with Octane for Blender. It's only there for debugging purpose.

Also, the new custom version is now available for al prime users as well.

Ok. But OctaneRender™ for Blender 2023.1.3 - 28.17 [STABLE] was fine before OctaneBlender Addon 29.13 Beta Release [TEST] - "freeze" (= this did not respond) issue.

-> And... now OctaneRender™ for Blender 2024.1 - 29.14 [STABLE] (with Prime edition since this today) is again fine! :D

Thank very you! ;)

Thank you for the example, looks great. I only had an issue when I was looking at the example and choosing to look at it along one of the major axis. This might only be an issue with the viewport as I wasn't able to reproduce it with the camera. Here is an image that is shown along the Z axis and the textures disappeared. Then in the second image I just moved the viewport a tiny bit off axis and they re-appear.

Edit: I figured it out, I have Blender set to go into orthographic view when I look at a major axis. So I tested it with other viewing angles, and sure enough, the textures disappear when in orthographic view.

It doesn't look like you can create a camera with an orthographic view? Under the type drop down there is no Orthographic option.

Of course you can. You're just looking into the wrong place. ;)
