Nothing new - just usual way to keep your images less noisy. It works for any unbiased render
1. Keep emitter away from geometry (if it's possible)
2. It's better to use single side geometry for emitter (normal is pointed to scene)
3. It's better to use diffuse material for reflector

Carl, its pritty simple.
The blue half circle is a lamp shader. So whenever that is present on the icons it measn there is a shader in play.
The yellow icons should speak for them self, they have clear shapes and arrows.
