Hi,
I'm trying to export a very simple model from rhino into octane and I'm getting a huge amount of material nodes. It looks like every single polysurface in rhino gets it's own material. I've made a search in the forums for export settings from rhino and tried all kind of settings in the obj export options (also downloaded the more advanced import/export plugin from mcneel), to no avail. What am I doing wrong? Also been playing with diferent kind of material assignements within rhino, but nothing changed.
Can someone help -I'm in a deadline-?
Here's a screenshot of the problem and the model itself (erased nearly everything and still getting nearly 30 mat.)
My config: windows 7 32, octane 2.2b, rhino 4 sr8, geforce gtx 460
Thanks in advance
Pd. would like to avoid, if possible, the blender route someone pointed out
rhino obj export and material nodes

hi Henrik,
what do you mean by checking colors in grouping method? Do I have to make groups before exporting?
Yesterday I tried exporting through blender and, allthough I got it working, it is a useless method considering my normal workflow, in wich I modify geometry and go back and forth..

Is the geometry exported alright?
A wild guess is that all this nodes are surface styles you have at startup.
I have configurated my projets with only one color and put on new colors as I need new materials.
can you post a screenshot of your modell
maybe im on a another planet, but i had simular problems in the beginning

hi henrik,
the nodes you see read as various materials that repeat themselves. regarding the export, I tried countless different setups, I even started a new file with very simple boxes and got to the conclusion every single box got it's own node/material, even if I only have 1 material in the scene. I also tried making all boxes the same color, same layer, same everything, to no avail.
I finally presented the thing without the renders, as octane would constantly crash working with so many nodes, and exporting through blender was quite a nightmare and had problems with smoothing groups. will try to post on the plugin forum, and see if I have better luck.
Anyway, thanks for your support!

hi Henrik,
Here is an obj file of 3 boxes on the same layer with the same material.
So I get 3 nodes within octane ???
