Nice test, Lassinger!

I don't know why, but for some reason the sea looks more like the mountains in the picture You've atached. think some tweeks would be nesecary for water material, to get that oceanic look..bit could't point What exactly..just yet.

The sea material at all does not approach here. Look at pictures, video. Create a material, add effect of refraction of water, and add absorption

but i would not a dark, realistic ocean... more a clear aesthetic...

really a nice water rippling effects...maybe too much transparent water but the effect is really good.

What kind of kernel did you used?
intel i7 3820 3.6GHz, 16Gb 1600Hz, windows 7 professional 64bit, gtx 580 3Gb x2, Octane 3dsMax 2.58

What's your videocard??? If you have Fermi (400-series or 500-series) card or better then should use PMC kernel (direct light by default).

to be honest I think you should try a different ocean shader, whether your aiming for realism or not - it looks too surreal atm imo.
