What makes you think you can't cheat in Octane? You could bake spherical hdri inside the room and use it as AO environment map that works INSIDE the interior. You can stack multiple portals next to each other to increase their intensity. Not to mention baking.

I'VE SAID IT BEFORE AND I'M SAYING IT AGAIN:
THE ONLY THING YOU CAN'T WORK AROUND IN OCTANE IS GEOMETRY COMPILATION THAT HASN'T BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED SINCE VERSION 1 OF OCTANE AND IS THE SLOWEST COMPARED TO ANY OTHER RENDER ENGINE, BIASED OR UNBIASED. AND IT'S STILL 50% SLOWER ON OSX AFAIK.

I paid for V1, and then V2, and then V3

And now, about SIX YEARS LATER I will have to pay again for V4 to finally see some improvement in that FUNDAMENTAL part for any render engine.

But yeah...right. Light linking and still image Interiors are massive oversights.

Ok but I dislike much "Isotropix Clarisse" - "HAND DOWN" as BAD because this program uses CPU only and does not use GPU for rendering!!! :?
NOTE: I'm sorry for bad english due to mute ;)

Yes, same here ! After waiting and reading "few days" "soon" "etc..." we 've trying Redshit and...... we 've bought 8 licenses for your studio ! Happy ! For Octane, it's very good product but with no dating roadmap (like Corona or redshift),
Customers (yes, we are customers) will see and do tests elsewhere. The conccurence is at the click of a mouse ! Sorry for Octane !

Just to be perfectly clear.

I'm not going back to polishing turds from biased renders EVER again. I'd rather dumb down Octane or add 5% of compositing skills to the mix.

I'm just saying that we should keep an eye on priorities and be more professional about discussing issues in Octane instead of bashing the whole company at every chance we get. Even when it doesn't make any sense and even when we don't know everything that Octane can do.

In a nutshell... we should all be Raphael Rau. ;)

(edit: yes, I do realize I sometimes sound like a productivity coach having a nervous breakdown.)

Below is a 9 minute 4096 x 2048 render in Octane 3.09 (test 3) that is noise free. Rendered on a laptop (256 OB) and cleaned in real time with the AI denoiser:

@Goldorak

Below is a 640 x 360 render of a simple cube that takes ~6 minutes and 36 seconds to render in Octane. :)

Obviously, an exaggerated example of a bug in adaptive sampling.

Edit: To clarify, there is no contribution to the render after ~0.5 seconds. The problem is that rendering doesn't stop after the noise pass is completely green. For example, in a real world scenario test animation would render in 5-6 hours instead of 30 min. Test animations (clay render, diffuse only etc.) are needed to evaluate motion blur and depth of field and often the camera would move from a frame that needs 20 samples to a frame that needs 50000 samples. So the extreme example below renders ~6 minutes instead of 0.5 seconds.

At this point, I am sure you guys will fix it.

For the record, after these last few releases I feel like I can start taking requests from users. It feels like someone was going through all of my posts making sure everything was there. :)

Thanks

That sounds super promising! I can't really tell with the images on Facebook as it is a bit blurry in quality (as de-noise tends to do to textures). Eagerly awaiting to test the AI denoiser, gives me hope!! Can't come soon enough... Thanks :)
