Is there a trick to getting VDBs to render when using Pyro?

Hi, I'm experiencing instant crashes the moment I try to render a scene using a Pyro object and an Octane VDB.

Voxel size is 1.5cm, and it's just a simple smoke simulation of which I'm trying to render a single frame.

As soon as I render the image in the picture viewer, the counter doesn't even begin, it just hard locks the software. If I disable the VDB first, it renders fine.

You dont need to use vdb for Pyro. You may have lot of voxels if it's crashing.

Hi,
no problems in rendering Pyro sim + extra VDB object here:

What happens if you render the VDB alone?
Is it working correctly?

I did try to use the Object tag method, but the documentation links to a dead page, and I wasn't able to achieve anything other than a completely opaque black blob with no physical characteristics of any kind.

Is there a page that shows how to correctly use the object tag in relation to pyro?

Trick: Let the Pyro calculated a few frames then put the tag. It will create and adjust the Standard Volume for you as your calculated channels. It will find for channel names by automatically

Hey thanks, that's what I've been trying, but I'm still having no luck. It creates the smoke just fine, but it's just a dense, solid black. I can only make changes to the density, etc..

When you say "calculate a few frames", are you saying press play to let it run through the sim a little, or is there something else I need ot be doing?

Thanks dude, that's sorted out some of the blackness, my only remaining problem is getting it to render.. It shows in the live viewer, but doesn't show up in the picture viewer when I render. Tanks man!

HIya

Still stuck on this I'm afraid.. when I copy your settings, it looks much better, and it's visible in the render preview, but when I render in the picture viewer it isn't there.
