I'm working on scene and am trying to save a material just the way I have set up.

I can get it to save in the LocalDB no problem but never with any of the nodes. I have followed everything I can from posts to the manual being sure to save the scenes first following the instructions step-by-step.

Here is a simple example. The first picture always imports into a new scene as the second:

Have you tried to import the saved material in an already saved scene, instead on a new scene?

Yep, just tried it. It seems to be dumping the diffuse info. Look at the new example, it's from a Forester scene. It drops the diffuse and adds nodes to the missing bitmap (shouldn't be missing because I used one in the text folder.)

Odd thing is the inbuilt C4D "save material presets" works, so I can just use it—the opposite of what the Octane manual says. I just like using the LocalDB because I know where my materials are being saved.

1st pic- original material, 2nd - imported into saved scene, 3rd sample what I'm doing with the instance color

Here's the actual Red Instance color reimported (It's identical to the other one though. I picked the wrong picture.)

c4d textures will be lost if you save to localdb, because they are converted to octane nodes. So use content browser to keep these.

Okay, but that doesn't explain the first two pictures in the top post. Those are four Octane nodes—Random Color, Gradient, Instance color and Octane material. Nothing else.

Are you saying that won't save into the LocalDB either? Just trying to understand.

InstanceColor is ignored in this example. Seems like an overlooked node on import

Okay, that makes sense. And since it's the first in the chain, the others are lost as well, leaving me with the blank white material.

I'll just use C4D's inbuilt user preset. Thank you.

I'm having issues with this as well, im creating my own materials and saving as material presets . They are automatically saving to user.lib4d folder in content browser. But when open a new project to use these materials, They are no where to be found & Completely gone from my user.lib4d folder. Can someone help me located them.
thank you
