Hello,
I have a small problem with Cinema 4D and Octane Render. I do not manage to obtain a render with area lights. When I launch Octane Render, volumes appear but not the lights.
Do you know where is the problem ?

Thanks

Area lights are exported with a diffuse material only as .MTL files are not able to store emissive materials. That means you have to enable the emission in Octane yourself.

Hey.. so is octane going to make like a way to allow the light emmiters to pass through from c4d or any other software to octane.. How about if we choose like a special name for the texture of the light - such as "light#" which is passed to the .mtl and octane interprets it as a light emmiter with the color and value as the brightness percentage..
that could be the simplest work around.. should we do a feature request or are they doing it?

I asked something similar before and as far as I understood it the Octane devs didn't want to introduce any "OBJ hacks", because most of the exporter plugins rely on the already existing OBJ export of the host app. I.e. they can't really introduce those hacks. Kinda makes sense.

I just asked them what the plans are regarding exporters and stuff, but didn't get an answer yet. My guess is, that they are mainly focussing on getting the last features in for the 1.0 release and improving stability and then look to improving the connectivity to other 3D apps. But I really don't know what the plans are here and it certainly doesn't hurt to ask for a better connectivity.

Marcus

Hi all, hi Abstrax,
The new version 1.23.5 is out but there is still the problem with the modified material inside Octane (pushing the "render" button reset all material tunning made in Octane).
Do you have some information about that ? Or maybe it's me ???
Thanks for your help.

No, that problem is still there. I have asked the Octane devs, but have no response yet. For a workaround, please read this thread (thanks to bepeg4d):

What do you mean? Do you mean that materials are not kept after relinking? As far as I know, there is nothing I can do about it. For a workaround, see here:
