Finally got round to experimenting with it. Works well on my grass field but couldn't get the OSL texture to make any displacement even though it linked in OK to the disp material. Is that right?
I used my regular displacement map in this example but I don't think the tiling is particularly noticeable. Good enough for today's deadline anyway!

PS not sure why the image looks so dark here, looks much lighter in the render window. Suspect it's something to do with the unfathomable gamma confusion.

Hi Rik,
you would use baking texture node to work with displacement map.
Gamma seems to be working well; this is my basic setting, but you could set response sRGB with gamma 1.
