Hey Paul,

there is a new Video about FStorm. It seems as if you can enable a directional Light option to geht more control about the lighting:

You can achieve a similar Effect by adding a Falloff Node to the Distribution slot. Maybe You and Funk have an idea how to add such a functionality to the AreaLight Item:

What do you think?

Hey there,

so i made a little assembly. You can Plug it in the Distribution Slot of the EmissionNode and control the Angle and the Sharpness of the emitted Light:

I'm very courious about your Opinion. I think it works very well and could be added to the AreaLight Item or could even be used to make a Spotlight item.

PS: I tried it also in the 3.07 Testversion and it results in an error. The last Stable version works fine.

I had another idea to enhance the Spotlight even further. In the Screenshots you see a Gradient which controls the Pattern of the Spotlight. I want to add this to the assembly but i can't expose the Gradient to the Assembly. Is there a way to do this?

In addition it would also be possible to mix this with Textures to get even more variation:

I understand that a gradient cannot be plugged into an Assembly in Modo, so what you are trying to do may not work.

That's a pity.

Do you think it's worth adding this control in the Arealight item? Also is it possible to add an option to map a texture to the Area Light?

I think you should just use the Create Octane Emitter in this case, and tweak the resulting Octane Override as needed.

Mhmm, the Lightwave and Houdini Guy is considering to implement this (viewtopic.php?f=36&t=62969). Why not be the first to have this? ;)
