Hi,
I'm having the same problem in this topic viewtopic.php?f=30&t=55763
I've already tried many solutions from several related topics and none of them works.
I'm using C4D R18.057 and Octane 3.06.2
Here's my setting:
And here's the result composited in Nuke:
How to get rid of the weird edge and get the correct result?

Any idea how to get things right in Octane?
Z Depth Edge Problem (Updated 2017/07/28)

Hi jackplus,
sorry, not a Nuke user, anyway, if you set the Sampling mode to "Non-distributed without pixel filtering", the Z-depth pass will not have any DOF or blurring effect, is this what you need for you Z-depth pass?
Please, have a look at this image: ciao beppe

Thanks so much for you reply.
I've set my sampling mode to Non-distributed without pixel filtering already but it still gets weird result.
But when I render aliased Z depth pass from C4D, the result is better than using Octane depth pass and C4D world position pass.
Setting my focus point on the closest sphere, I get some weird blur around it.
Are you working well with octane Z depth pass in AE?
While I get the same broken result no matter I composite in AE or Nuke, it really drives me mad

Hi jackplus,
sorry, please try with Distributed rays option instead, in this way the DOF and the blur will be rendered with the Z-depth pass.
Please have a look at this video about Z-depth in AE:

Thank you for being so patient.
Actually I've watched the video before asking and tried three different sampling modes.
Unfortunately, none of them works......
Here's some tests I just made: I set the focus point on the closet sphere.
Notice they both have weird blur around it.
It seems nothing to do with which software for compositing.
Is it something related to filter size?
I tried to set it to 0.001 or 1, but in vain.
Would it be a bug of the newest version of Octane?
I'll try the older version later.

Hi,
I've tried using Octane 3.05.3 to see if it works.
And it doesn't.
Also, I adjust almost every options I could change including natural response, gamma before response, disable partial alpha......etc to see what cause this problem, but none of them gives possitive result.
Following this tutorial I get some better result.

You guys never come up with this problem in Octane?
Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Hi, this post is quite old.oneyedog666 wrote:Hi
I am having the same issues. I am trying to render a grid of desk fans but the z-depth pass always makes the edges blurry. Any advice. Attached screenshot
There shouldn't be much to do.
Are you on a recent Octane version?
How was it setup in post?
I would often suggest to double check the setup in post as the "issue(s)" often come from it.
