Noise on edges of Shadow Passes

I've tried to find the answer to this myself, but I've looked all over and can't seem to find a solution.

My issue is I get noisey edges when rendering Shadow Passes in the Render Layer system. I've attached a screenshot of my scene showing the issue, as well as my settings.

I've played with every level of samples, specular depth, ray epsilon, caustic blur, GI clamp, and coherent ratio. Nothing gets rid of them. I've done the trick where I fill the scene with a ton of even light and than just reduce the exposure to my desired lighting, but they still appear. Enabling "Only Side Effects" seems to get rid of them, but then it shows shadows behind the objects that I do not want to see. Also it adds weird "scratch marks" in the shadows on the bottom of objects. Also I have no idea wtf this setting is meant for, so I'm hesitant to use it.

Anyone got a clue? Thanks!

I can't check that detailed but you should check that in a compositing software after comping not in LV or PV. And search for similar topics with answers.

see this thread viewtopic.php?f=30&t=56386&start=10#p301206

Black dots will not show when your shadow layer is underneath your object in compositing.

Unfortunately they are still very noticeable. Especially when I am using a transparent material to generate shadows (example: piece of clear tape peeling off the wall will cast slight shadows, which are completely unusable in Octane as the pixelated edges looks terrible).

Hi colinleiker,
I suspect that you are experiencing the same issue reported innthis other discussion, and will be fixed in the next update of SDK:

Devs - please confirm: this is still a problem, even in 2019.1 XB2, right?

The residual internal noise will be covered by the beauty pass on top.
What is important is to have a clean result outside of the alpha of the Render layer, for shadows and reflections.
