Still no random texture/material function like the one in 3ds Max "MaterialByElement" ?
If you haven't seen it in the Octane Standalone release notes, it has probably not been done yet. I'm not a 3ds max person - so unsure what you mean by MaterialByElement.

Could be a outside of Octane scope. Maby some one with more Modo experience than me that can help me find a plugin like this.

Try the approach at https://youtu.be/Yd7jkAnRZpg - you will need to use the Octane NodeGraph material to implement this.

Yeah unfortunately it is something the Octane Dev's need to sort out in Core. Would love to be able to use Variation Texture with Texture Switch in Modo, for floorboards and cut tiles that are one mesh but unwelded elements. (as can be done with modo)

Use this viewtopic.php?f=73&t=53839 under nodal approach.

Oh nice! Thanks for the link. Does it work only with replicator/instances or can it work on a single mesh with unwelded 'parts'. Like the variation texture set to 'Mesh Item'?

Will give it a try, thanks!

Not sure I understand your question.

Ok, for example:

You have 5 Cubes but they are in 1 Mesh item in modo. So in essence 5 elements but only 1 mesh.

Can these textures be mapped to each element as we can with Texture Switch + Variation Texture in Modo?

Hard to say how it would work. Just give it a try.

You would need to have each cube with a different part id, selection set or material id, and setup five materials accordingly in the Shader Tree to do this.
