modo:
rotate = alt+lmb
zoom = alt+ctrl+lmb
pan = alt+shift+lmb

I think this goes for Lightwave as well.

(although i've remapped modo to use the space key instead of alt)

Both solutions posted before for C4D will work:

Alt + LMB = Rotate
Alt + MMB = Pan
Alt + RMB = Zoom

or

1 + LMB = Pan
2 + LMB = Zoom
3 + LMB = Rotate

For Lightwave
Alt + LMB = Rotate
Alt + MMB or Alt + Shift + LMB= Pan xy plane (parallel to floor axis)
Alt + Shift + RMB = Pan z plane (parallel to wall axis up down)
Alt + RMB or Alt + Ctrl + RMB or Mouse wheel= Zoom

One of the nice things in Sketchup is, that you zoom in and out to the cursor position.
So you can fast zoom ( scroll ) back and forth to change the direction. With the rotation tool as mmb it is easy to set the positions you want.
I think it is not a build in, in 2.3, but maybe you can have a look with future developements.

Hi Radiance,
as far as viewport control goes what is the Space Navigator integration status? Could we expect it in 2.3 Beta coming out this week or it will be available at a later stage. I know you have much more serious things on your mind but believe me- once you go Space Navigator you never go back :D

P.S. Ever since I got mine I've never used any of the movement tools in 3DS Max.

Cheers mate and all the best.

"S" + LMB Pan
"S" + RMB Rotate
"S" + MMB Zoom
XSI also has an alternative "Maya" setting which I use, it is:

LMB Rotate
RMB Zoom
MMB Pan

The reason being that this is how it works in Maya, Mudbox and Boujou as well. So switching from one app to another is very easy.

Hi guys,

Thanks, i'll use the maya scheme for XSI then for now.

regarding the space navigator, indeed we're working on finishing the engine first,
we will add the space navigator support soon.
