hi

i'm trying to create some water with waves, and i have started with the water that comes from a scene 'oceanwater.max' by karba (i think, i could not find the thread again).

the waves area created using turbulence texture as a bump map.

but how can i create bigger waves? i guess i need to use displacement, insted of bump, but it seems that turbilence texture does effect the displacement map :-/

can anyone help?

thanks

If you plug the turbulence texture into a Multiply node, you can exaggerate the effect with values greater than 1! Try turbulence times 15 8-)

hi probetis

would you add the multiply node on the bump or is it on a displacement node?

thanks

Jorgensen, my suggestion was for just an exaggerated bumpmap. For some reason, displacement maps can only accept bitmaps for now, and not procedural textures. A displacement map will be more realistic but much more difficult to work with and longer to render.

Do you need for a still picture or animation?

hi probetis

@others
thanks for the input - but i would like to see if i can improve the octane texture before trying plugins :-)

Hi, you can have this simple scene from me. Good for stills. Just adjust the wave height in the displacement slot. Adjust water color in the reflectance slot. Adjust the size of the ocean by adjusting the size of the plane, the displacement map tiles. It looks even better if you use a HDRI map for lighting
