yep that would be great.

hey smoothing is screwing up when I animate. In first frames its great and more frames more blackness on my renders

So, i have it...
User normals, rather the normals with the discontinuity angle, are now saved as usernormals.
And as i say, the smooth option is ever on, on the first mesh.
If smooth is on and the discontinuity angle is 0°, they look as smooth is off.
It´s a bug that Octane don´t use the s option in the obj-file for the first mesh.
A little bit background
The usernormals in Softimage can setting up under Model->Modify->Component->SetUserNormals and give us a user_normal_cluster.
These are the real usernormals and these overwrite the settings from the discontinuity angle.
This has me a little bit confused

so either that or maybe making grid 1X1 as first mesh and then sending it behind the camera?? and everything else should be fine??

When you use models with transformations(scaling/rotation/translation), then you get errors.mlody47 wrote:hey smoothing is screwing up when I animate. In first frames its great and more frames more blackness on my renders
74/100 .
The same as Amplitudes watch.
Can you send me the file, so i can check if the changes i made now work?
Recommend as a scn
Texture i don´t need.

Ok, that would be a solution.mlody47 wrote:so either that or maybe making grid 1X1 as first mesh and then sending it behind the camera?? and everything else should be fine??
Fact is, that the bool button for smooth, have no effect for the first mesh, when the discontinuity angle is 0°.
I must test, if the button have at all no effect on meshes with user normals...

Edit:
Ok, it works in form the discontinuity angle is.

The grid would be only have an effect on the smooth option for the first mesh in Octane.mlody47 wrote:now im rendering the same with grid 1x1below ground

I will make a new addon now, then you can test...

hey guys,
the problem I'm having now is that the model is too smooth... really need these user normals
to be able to set different smoothing angles per object.
