Is it a bug, or there is a reason why they cannot be used together?

I would like to use both displacement and normal map, but for some reason I'm having weird problems, as you can see in the image below:

hi rikk,
have you tried to slightly change the ray epsilon value?

Yes, that's the first thing I tried but nothing changes.bepeg4d wrote:hi rikk,

the weird thing is that the triangle pattern is visible also on the floor, not only on the wood

That's because it's a simple plane with a displacement texture applied, the texture includes both the floor and the wooden plankbepeg4d wrote:the weird thing is that the triangle pattern is visible also on the floor, not only on the wood![]()

linvanchene, your theory makes sense, however there is a difference between bump + normal and displacement + normal. The first simply doesn't work, if you try to apply both bump and normal, one of the two is automatically disabled.
In the case of displacement + normal, it seems Octane is trying to display both of them, but it fails.
It would be nice to have a word from the dev team to clarify what's going on. If necessary, I can provide the scene.

I got the exact artefacts if I had vertex normal map applied to a surface. Try disabling vertex normal map and use only normal map texture.

What is a "vertex" normal map?!BorisGoreta wrote:I got the exact artefacts if I had vertex normal map applied to a surface. Try disabling vertex normal map and use only normal map texture.
Anyway, Octane team please reply to this thread!

Of course bump + displacement maps can work fine together, but I guess maybe not good enough for this thread.
