Thanks Matthew.
First it said the geometry is to large and I need to increase the number of polygons....I tried doing so but it never seemed to change the actual number.

Then when I clicked render the same error appeared and has been coming up whenever I click render even in different Rhino scenes.
What did you increase the number of polygons to?

If you put a sufficiently large number in for the max polygons, it will be too large to fit in your RAM, and will probably pop an error, even on the smallest scene (since it will pre-allocate the "max polygons" amount of memory). The default max polygons is set to 10 million, and I would have thought it would be incredibly rare for a Rhino scene to need more than this. I think Octane's limit is around 28 million polygons.

Hi Paul,

You were right. I checked the polygon size a while back and it was nowhere near 28 million, so definitely not the problem.

I started work a few weeks ago and installed octane for Rhino on their computers and the same error came up. I am really unsure as to why it is doing it. My Octane for Rhino still will not work so I will try a reinstall quickly to see if that fixes it.....I don't think there is much else I can do.

Any help once again would be greatly appreciated. I'm sorry for replying late, I haven't had much time to experiment jumping from University to work!

Thanks,
Matt

....I just reinstalled and another error came up.

So what DO you have the max polygon size set to?

How much RAM to the work PC's have? Are they 64bit?

Thanks for your reply.

I have my max polygon size set to 10 million.

And yes correct 64bit with 24GB of RAM.

Hi Matt

I just checked, and using 10 million as the Max Number of Polyons did not give me the error. I have had no other reports of this issue. Does it happen on every PC you install the plugin onto? Does it happen on all scenes? If you can give me more info then I can help you.

Also, have you tried 1.55.0.24?

Hi Paul,

I have not tried it on other PC's yet. I will try installing it on another computer tomorrow and let you know the results.

And no I haven't tried the 1.55.0.24 version yet on my home desktop and I am not sure what the version is at work but it was installed last week so I am assuming most recent? I'll double check these details and get back to you tomorrow night.

Also, might upgrading to v2.0 make a difference? just a thought

Thanks again Paul for your help.

I doubt that will make a difference. It's more likely an issue where the plugin has not installed correctly over the previous version (might it be possible that you installed the plugin whilst Rhino was open?).

Hi Paul,

That might have been possible....but I have had some good progress over the past couple of weeks.

On my home computer I re-installed Octane for Rhino again and double checked the settings we have spoken about over the past few months and found that the polygon setting was in fact way too large, somewhere in the 100's of millions. I switched it back to 10 million and it has been working flawlessly. Maybe when I changed the setting previously it didn't reset back....or I simply didn't click the apply button. hmmm

The error has been appearing on my computer at work also but it does continue to work after clicking the 'ok' button. The error appears when you click 'open vewport', although it doesn't happen all the time its quite random. I will keep you update, atleast its working though.

Thanks again!
