Rounded edges.

The renderer geometry in the scene for a 90 degree threshold, if detected it rounds the geometry according to a user specified amount. Blender does it with geometry at render time I believe, Mental Ray does it similarly, modo does this via the shader--I haven't touched V-Ray in a while so I can't speak for that renderer. It is possible with RenderMan but due to the nature of how that renderer is built, it requires a specific shader written for certain types of geometry. The easiest implementation i've seen of this yet, is in modo.

I believe this feature alone would bring many folks to Octane. :O

neat stuff =) definatelly worth to get a place in any engine. Yeah, that could be done manually, modeling all this, but..it takes a lot of time..inplementation of this feature through shaders might be a great time saver..Subtle, but brings that extra somehing for the output =) one day I love to see that in Octane too.

I tried making this same effect using the dirt texture as bumpmap but strangely it doesn't work...

That shader would be a great addition to octane's feature set.

Yea +1 for that shader! That should be a extreme time-saver shader.

Yes this is a necessity in a modern renderer. As I said in the other request post. It is also very useful for simulating water surface tension against a object. If you look at the edge of water meeting a wall there is a rounded edge. In Mental Ray you enable "round corners" in the Arch&design shader, and enable "blend with other materials".
Also good for eyes, to get that little white highlight where the eye meets the eyelid.

Do the developers have an opinion on this feature? ;)

OH Yes I want it too.
Perhaps an edge texture in the bump slot would make it... just an idea
