Hello, @linograndiotoy! :)

I request you will increase the number of samples per pixel (spp) from 1M to 100M for any region picked (and for full image) and add the "Max. samples for region picked:" for kernel settings due to the very good/excellent (variable* and fixable) caustics at Path Tracing kernel in next version of 27.16.x plugin. :)

Please this... ;)

* - If you don't understand the new "variable caustics", learn -> viewtopic.php?f=25&t=81285. ;)

It's technically not feasible to increase the sample limit further as it will run into numerical issues due to limited amount of floating point precision. There are also other issues like degraded effectiveness of sampling beyond 128K samples/pixel.

In general if you can't render your scene properly with 1 million samples/pixel, you either have to change your scene or change your method.

Problems for caustics!??? But I tested 10 laps of 1 MS/px (= total 10 MS/px) and caustics got no any issues at path tracing kernel.

"Box" scene on OR standalone (not OR plugin for Blender):
-- 1 MS/px of region picked during 6h30min at 1680x1050 on my old GTX 980 Ti SC+ at photon tracing kernel (NOTE: PPM method can't render any variable caustics at less than ~0.4 roughness of glossy ground) but brightness increased badly caustics --

-- 10 MS/px of region picked during 2h10min at 1002x602 (due to "demo") on my new RTX 4090 at path tracing kernel --

(Very) Good caustics = caustics little noised despite path tracing kernel. :) :)

@abstrax or @guys

If after first MS/px of region picked completed, we pick manually without any reset more region(s) of 1 MS/px at 2 or more laps (means 2 or more MS/px), we get no any issues.

Otherwise more than 1 MS/px of region picked has single lap, this may get any issue. This issue is ABNORMAL.
