Octane build mid-2020

Hi all,

it's that time again, my 2015 machine has been great but it's time for an upgrade. Looking at platforms, I'm excited about the new threadrippers and PCIe 4, but not sure how much that will actually help with Octane. A cheaper alternative would be to base a system around the X299 WS Sage ...

Re: Geforce RTX

A scene which took 2min30s for a frame (with the 1080 + 980ti), now takes 31s :o

Ha pretty sweet numbers. These cards are insane!

Re: Geforce RTX

Re working with Octane 3, I don't think it does but haven't tried that yet. Will give it a shot tomorrow.

Re Pascal + Turing cards in the same machine, that seems to work fine. My Win7 machine has a mix of 1080ti's 1080s and a 2080ti and octane 4 plays nicely with all of them.

Re: Geforce RTX

Yeah, I am pretty floored with the result. Like I say, I'm not a benchmarking / hardware expert, this is completely unscientific, but .. yeah holy sh__T I am quite impressed.

Re: Geforce RTX

Wow, OK so YMMV but I just got my 2080ti and ran a little test (the octanebench doesn't want to work with the 2080ti).

The test is just a single frame from a job I'm working on, and it's not a crazy scene, a bit of displacement and texture detail going on. The hybrid 1080ti completes a single frame ...

Re: Geforce RTX

+1 Would love to get more information about how these new cards will perform.

I got caught in the frenzy last night and ordered a 2080ti, so I guess I'll find out soon enough. That vulcan test is amazing but not sure how much practical knowledge I can take away from that.

As far as I can tell the ...

New chips, new hardware, oh dear

Anyone have any thoughs on the new EPYC processor from AMD? I'm pretty excited about it, looks like it might make a nice base for a GPU station..

Re: Version 3.05.3 (13.01.2017) - Latest stable

Great additions Ahmet, little workflow things like that are great. I always have a half pause when I'm creating a sub surface material, or something emissive, to remember which nodes go where. Anything like this helps.

edit - something that I love about houdini is the way you can just hit a key and ...

Hi Ahmet, when do you think you'll have a 3.06 out?

Adaptive sampling looks sexy..
