If I'm working on a file, made some changes, but did not save and then click on New - OctaneRender Startup (Direct Lighting or Path Tracing), there is no prompt for saving file. You lose all your edits! All the other options (New: General, Sculpting, etc..) correctly prompt you to "save changes before closing." But the Octane new file commands simply go straight into a new file, discarding all your edits.
This is on 2026 31.0 beta Addon version, have not checked Custom Build.

Those option should only be used at the start of a session.
If you need to setup Octane's general basic options, please use this addon:

Once installed, you'll find a new option in the 3D view:
This is not "destructive", and pretty useful if you're starting from a Cycles scene.
Also, if you need to change Kernel type, just do it from the Render Properties:
