Hi,
Can you please add an option where we can add Multi/Sub-Obj to your mix material. It's useful to quickly coat them with dust, etc. Right now we have to add a layer of dust per material Thanks

Hi coilbook,
You could use Octane composite material node.

Hi coilbook,

You could use the Material Selector, witch is a Composite material internally, and uses a standard Multi Material as input.

But it's getting a bit complicated, as you need to add an Octane geometry modifier, to assign the material IDs from the mesh..
And the actual material selection depends on both the internal geometry faces and material ID, so it's not fully reliable..

Top cube and plane use simple multi material on their 6 materials.
Bottom ones use the Mix material + Material selector

I'll try to improve this a bit, and remove the need for the extra mult texture..
Thanks

Hello guys,
Any progress on making multi/sub-object work with mix material or composite? I used this a lot in Vray to quickly add snow or dirt as OP is also suggesting.

Many assets come with multi/sub-object materials, would be great if those materials would respect the multi/subobject material in max as this is quite common.

Thanks

Hi tombyrom,
Could you share the workflow that you're having trouble bringing into Octane Render?

Hello Paride,
In Vray I could plug a standard 3dsmax multi/sub-object material (with many materials attached to it) straight into a VrayBlend material, which is the equivalent of a Compostie material in Octane and I could apply on the second slot another material and then mask the entire object via VrayDirt map, think dirt or snow etc.

However in Octane when I plug the multi/sub-object material into a Composite material or Mix material it shows the material as either grey or it pulls in the first material id in the multi/sub-object material

Adding a mix node plus a dirt map to every material in the multi/sub-object material is not a realistic workaround on a proper project also this would not apply the dirt mapping uniformly over the entire object it would apply it per element...

Jonas Noell explains it in his tutorial for Vray here, effectively the vehicle is a multi-subobject material with 10 materials and then he uses a VrayBlend material with dirt map to apply effects over the entire vehicle.
