I installed the test 2020 version of 0.82a. I created a fluid animation, which shows fine inside blender, I can play the animation of the mesh etc, it has a material, I can advance the framemarker to any frame and have a nice fluid animated still image I can render etc ... all fine. But when I hit "Render animation", blender advances the frame marker from frame to frame, but the render window that opens anew with every frame as expected always only renders frame 1 ... what am I doing wrong?

Change the object type to reshapable proxy. This is located in Object tab > Octane properties

No need to Google it. Check documentation please:

You can assign different "types" to any mesh, so to let Octane be aware of what needs to be updated for each frame. That makes rendering animations faster, since you can set which object is static, which one is moving or changing shape.
