Hi Guys,

I just upgraded to Blender_Octane_Edition_2018.1.3_17.9_stable, and for some reason things are very sluggish. Renders included.

I suspect that several settings became reset to default as I found that CUDA was not even selected in preferences upon launching the program. But I do not remember what other things to look for.

Browsing during a render is pretty bad, even though I have selected Priority, for one of my 4 GPUs.

Could I get some guidance on a few settings to look at to speed things up a bit?

Is there a newer Nvidia Driver that can be trusted with this updated BlenderOctane version?

I vaguely remember something about tone mapping, but not sure.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Rick

Hi Rick!

The CUDA option in Blender only refers to Cycles, not Octane.

Preview Render should be fast. Can you show a snapshot of your settings? Those are mine:

If you have 4 GPUs, you may consider to disable the one used by the system in the Octane Device settings to maximize UI updates (you can totally disable any priority option in that case).

About the drivers, use the latest available. Just be sure to download those from the NVIDIA website directly:

I hope this helps!

Thank you, Lino.

Interesting about the CUDA setting within Blender. Should I revert back to CPU within Blender Preferences, or no difference?

Here are my settings, but not shown, I have ticked Use Priority previously.

I like your idea of disabling one of the GPUs. I will try that with the weakest card, and hopefully it will cover browsing, etc.

Off to Nvidia for the update, thanks.

Just curious: How are you liking your RTX cards? What did you use prior?

Best,
Rick

You're welcome!

That's making difference when using Cycles only. You can leave it to CUDA, no issues for Octane.

Turn on priority for the main system card, at least.

Just be sure to find out which one is the system card (normally the one installed in the first slot of your motherboard).

Good!

I'm totally in love with my RTX cards. I was using 4 Titan X before (well, I'm still using those, using another pc).

Best!
