This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender for Carrara 4.x.

Carrara Version
Carrara 8.1 Pro (64bit) or later on Windows 7, 8 or 10 64bit

Nvidia Driver Version
Nvidia drivers 387.x or later
Please be aware that the 418.81 driver does not work with Octane, and we recommend that you update to 419.17 which fixes the issue.

Network Rendering
For Network Rendering, you must use the Octane slave release 4.05 Release available here.

If you have a support issue, please provide the following information:
- Operating System (ex. Win 7, 8, 10)
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ex. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version
- Carrara version
- OctaneRender for Carrara version (ex. 4.05.00.09)

- The most important part of resolving a problem is me being able to re-produce that problem. So please provide as much detail as possible in order for me to do this, and if the problem is specific to the scene, send me the scene.

If you find a bug and don't report it then it will not get fixed.

  • Compiled with Octane SDK 4.02. See here for more details.
  • Created new DEMO version of the plugin.
Changed in 4.01.01.05
  • Compiled with Octane SDK 4.01.1. See here for more details.
  • Render room rendering now supports selecting the Render Pass to render. You can now select any render pass that has been enabled including the denoised beauty pass. Note that if you change the enabled render passes after you create the octane renderer then you may need to refresh the list. To do that just pick any item. When you reopen the list it should be updated.
Changed in 4.00.00.04
  • Fixed a problem with Octane Object Layer not setting Light Mask flags to true by default. This will not fix projects that have already been saved with the 4.0 plugin.
Changed in 4.00.00.03
  • Compiled with Octane SDK 4.00 (Release). See here for more details.
Changed in 4.00.00.02
  • Quick fix to get animation tab single frame rendering to save the selected render pass.
Changed in 4.00.00.01
  • Compiled with Octane SDK 4.00 (RC7). See here for more details.
  • Added missing Volume Denoiser switch to Imager settings.
  • Redesigned Render Passes. Render passes are now listed down the right hand size of the view port. Simply click on the pass you want to see. Also note that the selected pass will be used when rendering animations.
  • Known Issue: Render Room rendering using Octane does not currently support Render Pass selection. This means that you cannot use the render room to render a denoised animation. This issue will be resolved in a future release.
Changed in 4.00.00.00
  • Compiled with Octane SDK 4.00 (RC4). See here for more details.
  • Breaking Change. In order to support the new planetary environment I rebuilt the environment configuration to use shaders.
This means that any octane specific environment settings, textures or mediums in your 3.xx scene will not carry over and you will need to reconfigure the environment using the new environment shaders.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.
  • New kernel settings (AI Lights and Light ID masking)
  • New Render Passes (Denoiser)
  • New Imager Settings (Denoiser)
  • New Universal Material
  • Newer/Faster/Stronger

Very cool - I will look forward to giving it a try. Is it fairly obvious where the new controls are?

Hi Sighman,

I have downloaded the V4 build, downloaded the extra thingy needed when I first opened Carrara after dowloading, set up a little test scene with a plane and some spheres, and I'm not getting a render in the window. I have included a screenshot - there is no indication that it is recognising my GPU card. and if I open the Render Target / Devices, there is a row of buttons at the top but these don't seem to be doing anything at all when clicked - the only thing I am seeing is Render Priority.

I hope you can help!

If it can’t see your card(s) then either you don’t have the latest drivers 387+ or your card is too old. Fermi (400/500) series cards are no longer supported by Octane 4.

Thanks - I updated the driver and all is good now. Any hints and tips on using the new features?

Not really, if you want to test out the new AI features look at the denoiser and AI Light options in the kernels.

Checkout the post here.

You may also want to check out the new Planetary Environment, that is good for planetary orbit renders.

The Universal Material is also new and should be familiar if you know Substance at all. It combines glossy and discrete features together and you should be able to create some stunning skin shaders without having to use a mixer.

Basically you are looking at faster renders and more lights with less noise.

OK - I'll just have a play to try to get a handle on the new features.

Planetary Environment? Where is that hiding? I haven't seen anything about that.

Go to Scene then enable and create a new environment shader. In the shader select Planetary as your environment type...

Hi Simon,

Dumb question, but does this version work as a side-by-side version to 3.08? Can I use both on my system?

Best wishes,
Thomas
