Hi

I'm having some issues using (not understanding) the Object Tag.

I have a null group with static geometry in it. Its a table. the surface has displacement and the edge needs heavy subdivsion smoothing.
Im trying to apply and Object Tag to the group null with Mesh No 0, as the geometry has no animation, but this distorts the UVs on the displaced geometry and makes the edge geometry invisible

Im trying to put separate Object tags on children of the group null as well, with similar results.

The only thing that works is to put Mesh No 1 on the Object Tag, although the geometry is not animated in any respect.

Is this a known limitation, or am i doing something wrong here?

Thanks for any advice
Cheers
David

Any special reason to use meshno=0?

Hi thanks for getting back quickly

well, I wanted to use Octane subdivision, in hope that this would optimise the render. and since the object was static i assigned Mesh No 0, but as described this didn't work at all

I've now read up and understand that no tag means Mesh No 0 and also using C4D standard SubDiv isn't slower than Octane Object Tag subdivs either in my tests

is this correct?

thanks

I don't know speed difference but meshno=0 means that having a mesh as static. It's not short answer without understand a few different topics.
