A region render allways seems less noisy than a full render of the same scene.
I guess it's because the "Max sample" amount is allways used entirely whatever the size of the region to be rendered.
Is there a way to overcome it?
...it would be very efficient to have the same noise quality result wether rendering a portion or an entire image.
That way we'd be able to find the best "Max sample" value without allways having to re-render the whole image numerous times.
"Max sample" proportional to region render size?

Hi Fabrice,
With AS you can estimate sample needs very easily.
Sample count is per pixel, so you can make your rating using a small render,
you will have a reasonable evaluation of Max samples required.
As you can see in screenshots, noise samples does not change between rendering with different sizes.

Sorry I misexplained myself.
My problem is using the region render.
Here's an example :
Max sample is set to 100
The full image is very noisy.
But the region render (still with Max sample is set to 100) is smooth.
Why this difference?
Regards
Fabrice

Hi Fabrice,
You are using OctaneRender 4.21- 3.03 , you could use 4.33 - 3.06 with Adaptive Sample:

Here OctaneRender® for 3ds max® v3.06 - 4.33:

Thanks Paride but in my case the image is globaly noisy so adaptive sample wont help a lot.
And even if I use it the probleme is that I have render the whole image (about 10mn) in order to know if the sample number is enough
...and render another whole image...
wich takes a lot of time!

Hi Fabrice,
What you are talking about, would not be solved by a region render with partial samples,
the noise in a scene is not homogeneous.
Saying this, if you want partial samples in a region render,
I think you have to use the region render in 3dsMax frame buffer instead of OctaneRender viewport.

Thanks for the tip Paride.
It works. Using region render gives consistent results regarding the number of sample.
it's just sad that this way we loose the real-time feedback wich makes Octane's strength.
