Hi,
sorry for posting this here, but I would like to
get an recommendation from C4D-Octane users!
Have with my Asus X99 E WS unfortunately still massive problems and would like to send back that board.
I'm sure something is broken. And I don't want to fight again with an Asus board!
Now I'm looking for an alternative board for a Octane 4 x GTX 1080 Ti machine.
(I already have an i7 6850X, 64 GB RAM G.Skill 2400, H115i cooler and the new board should fit)
I would also like to add my Amfeltec cluster if possible!
The comparable board from AS Rock (WS or E WS) is not available.
What do you think about the MSI X99A XPower Gaming Titanium Intel X99 Sun 2011-3 Quad Channel
or the MSI X99A GODLIKE GAMING CARBON Intel X99 So.2011-3?
Could an octane freak please give me a recommendation?
Which boards do you use for slave or master PCs with several GPUs?
Thanks in advance!
Mike
sorry hardware question

hi, Mike,
sad to hear Your experience. Could You give a bit more details on
Overall the best is to look for durable gaming boards without gimmicky gamer/visual features - less complexity, less problems.
Please let us know what's the problem with ASUS board You have & we'll continue with some options later.

Hi Tom,
thanks for your feedback!
I was fighting over one week with that board and give up now!
(i7 6850K,64 Gig Ram G.Skill 2400, H115 Corsair Cooler, anidees AI8 Tower, 1200 W PSU, Win 10 64)
Planning this PC as Slave with 3 or 4 x GTX 1080 ti and my old Amfeltec Cluster)
So a total of 7 GPUs - that was the reason to buy this board.
Here some of the problems:
Without any overclocking it always rebootet to Bios.
Bios-Settings could not be saved. XMP and 2400 cannot be enabled.
Lots of WHEA bluescreens with every possible PCI-Slot GPU Placement
(I atm have 2 x GTX 980 Ti 6GB and 4 x GTX 780 6GB) I tried every possible combination.
Only 2 GPUs and the Cluster, 3 GPUs without, 4 GPUs and so on ......
Tried newest and older NVidia drivers. After several restarts every time another GPU lost the drivers in device manager.
Fan connected to ChaFan 2 on the board cannot be regulated
Deamon-Slave crashes after rendering a few frames with strange Cuda-errors (maybe you have read some of my posts about
curious crashes and errors reported on the deamon-slave)
Atm only 2 GTX 980 Ti are installed in Slot 1 and 5 and the last 2 days I could render without crashes.
But running this mashine with only 2 Cards was not my intension
So I think that this board is damaged (PCI-Slots, RAM-Slots don't know) and I want to send
it back and choose another one.
A Rackboard with 2 Xeons is not an option, because I already have the other components.
So I would be glad for any recommendation
thanks
Mike

hey Mike, let's tune in & solve this tomorrow! (It's a bit late now & I'm falling asleep, but will be glad to help You figure out & solve this!)
I've been eying the EVGA X99 FTW K for a quad gpu build. Not sure if a lot of people are using the board, but EVGA customer service has always been extremely well to me. Quite the opposite of Asus, who has terrible customer service as I'm sure you've found out.
Check out Cayn99's post in another thread for some other opinions on boards: viewtopic.php?p=294027#p294027

Corsair Air 540 Cube Case – Black - not good for 3, 4 gpus -poor ventilation
Intel Core i7-6850K CPU, 6 Cores, 3.6 - 3.8GHz
Asus X99-E WS/USB 3.1 Motherboard - avoid it - I RMAd 3 of them - look at Tutor's post on Asus.
"
Of course I followed the posts about building that 7-GPU monster, but thats over my budget.
I need to stay with my actual components like 6850K, 64 Gig Ram, H115i etc. and just send back that ..... Asus X99 E WS USB3.1
" Asus, who has terrible customer service as I'm sure you've found out." Yes - I found out!
So Tom, if you have come out of the feathers well (not sure if this works in english)
I look forward to your recommendations
thanks
Mike

hi,
I have one PC with Asus Rampage Extreme IV and another MSI X99S Gaming AC 9.. both suitable for 4GPU.
Now I am running 3 GPU with one slot spaced (with Titan Z on bottom, so still running 4 GPU..lol).. and earlier I was running 4x 580 classified on the
I did not have any troubles, and ofcourse the reinsurance (for the first few years) of waranty by seller Asus Rampage Extreme IV without any problem.
I guess, it is also about bad and good luck ahving troubles or not, but that does not take away the bad client treatment if you have to deal with the manufacturer directly.
Another hardware, but with Corsair I have had good experience when RAM was not working well and I had to deal directly with Corsair because the reseller (from that PC) was out of business that time.
