Sorry, i know i've brought this up before but never found a real solution. Is this a specular material problem in octane? This happens on both PMC and Pathtrace. I have both diffuse and specular depth set to 100 (i know that's overly high, but it's for testing purposes). it seems that that angle is not shallow enough to not be letting any light through (i forget the name of this).

Please chime in OTOY, this is starting to become such an issue that Octane Render is negatively affecting my jobs.

As you can see, in a fully white environment lighting, there are still black areas in the reflection that have no light.

Hi, is this form the standalone or from a plugin and which build please? does it happen to all your renders? it would be good if you can attach this scene here.

it's in Maya plugin (i forget what version, but one of the newer ones) but it happens in every scene, ever since I've starting using octane a couple years ago. I believe there are some other threads I've made about a similar issue in the pas but never got an answer. I'd think it was maybe just a lighting issue, although the test I create with the full white environment, where you're still getting full black in some areas makes me think different.
