Hi, Im trying to learn octane in modo, I know the octane basics but cannot understand the management of the materials in the modo integration. Should I always create a modo material then convert? and if so, then if something changes?

Who knows a basic tutorial for modo?

thanks

Hi - did you watch the videos in the "For more information" section at viewtopic.php?f=34&t=42581? And I assume you have read the manual?
Should I always create a modo material then convert?
You don't need the Octane Override only every Shader Tree group - only add the Octane Override if you need to tweak the Octane material beyond what is possible from the automatic on-the-fly material conversion that happens from Modo Materials.

Mood materials are straight forward for the most part and pretty powerful once you get the hang of things. If you're new to Modo I'd strongly recommend Richard Yot's shading video tutorials. While they're not free they are affordable and will arm you well for working with materials in Modo as well as Modo's renderer should you ever need or want to use it.

That should have read 'Modo' materials (Auto-correct mishap).

Could I use ONLY octane overrides to texture in modo or I should first create a modo material then octane override?

If its possible what are de disadvantages?

I ask this because for me the way that modo creates materials is a mess.

Yes, you can use just Octane Overrides. Just create an Octane Override for each Material group in the Shader Tree and edit the Override to get your final Octane material. There are a few users doing this. It's a long workflow (compared with the Shader Tree) for including images, since you need to add the image first (click the Mona Lisa button), then drag the clip into the Schematic.
