hello,
has anyone tried to use "the grass essentials" with octane-blender? I would like to know if you adjust the nodes to octane-blender for materials. Andrew Price is a genius and has done a fantastic job. We Blender-Octane user we can use it with ease?

Thanks.

Unfortunately the Grass Essentials does not work with Octane Blender all that well because of the render server. It all has to do with how the grass essentials works. Anything above 20,000 in the emissions panel will probably not load because of the render server and you need 500,000 in order for everything to look right. I have tried several times to get this to work because I love octanes shaders but to no avail. If you find a solution please do let me know.

If I understand rightly, the Grass Essential is just a very good models of grass and nothing more. If so, you definitely can use it into Octane for Blender. Why not? :)

I'm not sure (actually I have a guess) why you have problems working with instances but take a look at one of my scenes. There are a lot of grass (instances emissions+children) plus trees and bushes (duplications). And it takes only 45sec before an image appears in the renderview. And I have only 2GB of GPU memory.
You can calculate it by yourself, but there're more than 1'600'000 instances in this scene without trees and bushes. For all greens I used several objects and groups of objects as a mesh-source, it's the same way as you can use the Grass Essential.

About my suggestion. First of all, check which Mesh type have you chosen. Maybe the problem is you're trying to work with instances using the mesh type Global? ;)

P.S. I really love Andrew Price's grass pack! It looks super realistic, a lot of hard work was put into it. It's not cheap but I think it worth it.

Thank you Sara I will give this a try. With my usual settings particle type was set to emitter and not hair and to scatter in the object data panel. I was just following along with Andrews tutorial which can be found here: http://www.blenderguru.com/tutorials/ma ... dow-scene/

This is the problem: the material adjust/conversion
i test the sample file: https://s3.amazonaws.com/ezs3ac34a26aa3 ... rass.blend
http://www.blenderguru.com/tutorials/ma ... dow-scene/

the material node is too complex.
someone has tried?

It would be interesting... :) But I'd buy it only for the models!

This is why Octane 4 Blender needs to be able to import CSV files... then it wouldn't be a problem!

Hey Sara, I was still unable to get this to work. I waited over 10 minutes and still nothing. Very frustrating indeed. I have attached images and a blend file for you to try.
