How is open subdiv different from C4d subdiv?

i cannot see any advantages else network rendering. Both will cause precalculations in plugins side or octane side. Not hard to compare both with some tests.

No, there is no real advantage of OpenSubDiv over the C4D HyperNURBS. Both will end up as big triangle meshes. OpenSubDiv was added in case the 3D host application doesn't have subdivision surfaces, to allow the storage of non-subdivided meshes in Alembic files and to reduce the data transfer from the Blender plugin to the OctaneServer used by the Blender plugin.
