does anyone know what might be going on here. When I add a displacement map, it displays weird triangulation artifacts.

is your geo subdivided enough to begin with? does this happen on all models or just this one? what happens when you apply the displacement to a simple plane?

should I subdivide the geometry using smooth? or under the "extra attributes" using "octane:level". I will try using smooth and post an image.

I use the octane smooth instead of maya's. make sure to switch the setting off global or the smooth effect won't work. It looks like that's your issue maybe.

when you say octane smooth you're talking about "octane:Level" under the extra attributes? Also my mesh is set to reshapable proxy.

Ok, so this time I put the octane:level up to 4! It seemed to improve it a little bit. You can still see the tiny patches of distorted triangles.

I don't know what else to do to get rid of the black patches. I will upload my scene as well.

I think I finally fixed it. Last thing was Rayepsilon setting. Changed it to .0200
