Hi, I would like to know what type of cpu/s should I have to match modo internal renderer with the octane and 2 titan gpus. If its possible...

When I say "match the speed" I mean both the final render and the interative render view.

thanks!

I'm not aware with MODO internal render & what algorithms it uses..

but if You compare unbiased CPU vs Unbiased GPU there's no way to match the speed of two Titans with any of CPU - You probably need to have a small render farm..or..use some kind of biased algorithm (but that would be like comparing apples to oranges =)

for instance IRAY has (or had) a mode that runs the same code on CPU & GPU, & Graphic cards were way faster then any processor..at that time when I've tested.

so just to be clear..CPU's could be faster, but they would have to use different algorithm that might not be comparable to the one that runs on GPUs..- as some say here..vray is faster than octane..-though they are comparing vray running in biased mode..

p.s. there's a reason why fastest computers on the planet use GPU accelerators in order to speed up calculations... think I've seen a good image to illustrate this point (it might be skewed, as performance is judged on certain metric, but You get the point..GPUs are on entirely different level of performance compared to any CPU =)

MODO is a biased CPU renderer, so it's not an apples-to-apples comparison, more like apples-to-cheesecake. Ok, now I'm hungry.

The closest thing you could get to an unbiased render from MODO would be to use strictly Monte Carlo for GI. In which case Octane is significantly faster. My 12-core Mac Pro is completely outpaced when I just have one of my Titan Black's enabled. But, honestly, you would rarely render from MODO in that way; that defeats the purpose of having a biased renderer. There are some scenarios where Monte Carlo + Irradiance Cache gets to a clean result faster than Octane. It really depends on the scene.

Well what would the scene have to look like in order to be faster thano octane?
