Here's some quick renders, to give you a preview of what improved in v4 and what we are working on for v5. All are 512x256 at 128 samples. Some are direct lighting, some path tracing, but it doesn't matter much for this comparison.
Specular material in v3 and v4.
Bump in v3 and v4, there seems to have been a bug so it's not an entirely fair comparison, but the bump fireflies should be gone.
Glossy material in v4 and v5, now with fewer "dark edge" energy loss problems. Note this is with path tracing so there are caustics fireflies.
Improved emission sampling for surfaces nearby emitters, v4 and v5:
New v5 features, rough glass and mix material.
Teaser of pre2.3 v5 improvements

AFAIK, Cuda 3.2 is still in RC so we don't want to get our development "performances" hit by it's possible instability. For that reason, pre23_5 won't most likely be 3.2 yet but next one will (assuming Nvidia comes out with a final release in the mean time).
Very promising ! Thanks for this preview !

Looks great! Will the new glass have absorption as well as roughness?

In v5 it will only be an extra roughness control on the specular material, absorption is for later.simmsimaging wrote:Looks great! Will the new glass have absorption as well as roughness?
