Is there a way to use several HiRes trees in a scene without MultiScatter or ForestPack?
is there a sort of proxy for huge geometry?

Nope. Only standard Max tools.
I also doupt we will see any proxy mesh support cause i kind of remember that Karba is related to MultiScatter development ?? and probably wants to sell as many copies of it as he can. 8-)
Correct me if i'm wrong though.

Just right click on object - octane properties - movable proxy. Then you can copy objects in instance mode.

As far as I understand he means proxy models like VRayProxy object is?
That in the viewport you have a proxy point cloud and real mesh shows up only during rendering.
That would make views lighter and allow us to render heavy geometry and scenes with a lot of instances without the need for MultiScatter or ForestPack.

Yes he means Point Cloud support for movable proxies.
VIewport gets hell slugghish if you scatter lots of trees ;)

In max's object properties there is a checkbox display as box. You can use it for a clean viewport.

With MultiScatter, is there a way to "plant", let´s say, 10 trees at a specific position?

I tried display as box before forestpro was supported and it is way too slow if you have lots of models.
really fastest display are point clouds.

One a personal note: I really suggest to buy one of the abbove solutions. I used to "paint" my vegetation with other tools and scripts two years ago but the time saving using mutliscatter or in my case forestpackpro is so huge. It is also very flexible if you need to adjust some settings or make variations.

Display as Box work fine for me, as my initial question was about several trees
BUT can i plant trees with MultiScatter at a specific position or is it only made for large quantities of something?
