Maybe this has been brought up, maybe not.
Is the octane team planning on installing a macro lens to the Octane camera any time soon?
Thanks.

=DDD everything is there: tweek the lens settings use shallow dof, get Your subject as close as possible, render in UHD and You'll get You "macro" look. It's made up word in photography that usually means the lens that lets You to focus very near & get "life sized" capture.. but apart from that it's the same lense as every other. As Octane doesn't have limitations like these DSLRs, so simulating the look You're are looking for shouldn't be a problem. Just be sure You have detail enough model, good F value, enough resolution & time to render stuff out =)

glimpse,
so your saying put my field of view to like 1.0, crank the focal depth up to like 2000, and render something like 4000x3200px???
thanks for the quick response.

Wow, I think I got it, or the concept at least.
The small box is 3 inches. The big box is 8 inches.
The camera is about 13 feet away from the focus point.
The hardest part was setting the focal depth. Seeing as how I was in US Standard feet w/ inches units setup, it was very hard to get the focal depth just right until I switched back to generic units. Than I played around with the aperture and there you have it.
I appreciate you putting me on the right track glimpse.

ok, I see You bit miss understand me =) but got something /I still don't get what You're looking for but explain few things, that You clearly got wrong.
firstly it's FOV - Field Of View.. - Your camera in reallity would be mostrous and with what You've just set it is probably more as a telescope rather than Camera at all =p
"A 50mm lens focused at infinity has a horizontal field of view of about 39.6 degrees for a full frame 35mm camera. ..."
let's start from there =) if You want to mimic real world 50mm glass on a FullFrame camera /closest to what our eyes see/ set FOV to ~40..
now, put the aperture to somewhat 1.. (that's a very fast glass)
start playing around. Use corect scale =) and You should get pretty much normal results..if You focus very near to Your camera, it will blur the environment, 'cos of wide aperture that converts into shallow depth of field /DOF.
If You need to have wider lens increase fov, more as a telephoto - decrease.
cheers
