Yes, yes, yes! The only other option is to take dmaps and turn them into super-hi-poly meshes via Blender or similar if you need to hold fine detail. I like hi-poly meshes, but not THAT high poly.

via pixar subdiv surfaces lib is possible

it is implemented in Mudbox yet
