hello guys
I am very frustrated because after many attempts I can not create a lamp with the bulb inside
end an exterior surface of fabric with a good dispersion of light.

in my tests the fabric slightly transparent does not receive the light bulb emitter
any ideas?
thanks

try turning up the transmission value.

that will allow the material to transmit light, you may be able to put the opacity back to 1 as well.

thanks kavorka
but I am a beginner with octane and do not understand how to turn on the channel transmission

I have created a material mix with a texture on channel bump.
I do know how to transmit light to the material?
you can explain it simply?
thanks

okay ... I found the texture emission
and I attached to the material but the management of light scattering is very strange,
I do some testing ...

i wish my example was better... you can try to play with attached scene. I had best results when i set diffuse material, very high opacity around 0,9995 (1,0 will kill the effect) and emision around 0,1. Dont forget to boost power of light source.

hello petergazo
I would be very happy to use your files but has an extension that I can not open(max).
you can not save in a simple octane file?

I think I got success on that by using some SSS in the end.. but you need to add secondary invisible light sources since it won't light up the room, just for show

here's something

http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... lamp+shade

I did the render in octane in versions without SSS, emmiter was assigned to the lampshade and then turned down until it looked OK, then secondary light plane placed below to light up the bottom and probably a light sphere inside

hello guys, but I'm a hard head with a poor English.

peter, the file will not open if there is no mesh inside the folder.
However, to me it's enough to see an image of the nodes to see how you did.

I do not understand everything but I noticed that adding a node in the channel rgbspectrum trasmission start to see a light scattering.
the bad thing is that the ball emitter behind the fabric does not create a halo of light but it is too clean

I do a couple of tests and then I show you

I did this test by adding texture to the bump and the material.
The texture is not suited for purpose but give a bit of realism to the fabric that otherwise would be flat
