I've working with Virtual Production for more than 20 years, we implemented OctaneRender in 2014 and since that OctaneRender has always been ahead of the market in every key aspect...
I have used Octane for even longer and am appreciative of the software in many respects. I did say it was a good product and I certainly would agree with you that it has been ground-breaking in several respects.

I was a bit over-stated in my remarks, but I believe that Otoy should tone down the promises and future hype. I'll leave it at that.

Who knows if Otoy may be interested in doing that... hmm... my guess is no.
Twinmotion/Enscape/Lumion - ready to use one Archviz packages... are very different solutions compared to Octane - broad spectral of high end cg usage, custom solutions.
But who knows...
what I mean is if Brigade is a kind of game engine and open to third party dev, probabaly it can be developed into a similar thing like Enscape...

Can one of the devs explain how to access the new Oren Nayar BRDF type please.

Does this relate to the Arnold Standard Surface only ? or is it a BRDF type that can be accessed with the already existing ones (GGX / Beckman etc)

Thanks

You have quoted on april 11th.
If you can't release new XB in this week, you get "FAIL" and we're confused.

Last time I tried the Octane plugin for Revit, it was absolutely pathetic. They did not support linked files, materials, the user interface was just a horrible mess and they had not developed on the latest version of Revit 6+ months after its release.

I would have more hope for the 3ds Max plugin to work properly since it's already generally good and you'll probably want to "massage" the exported geometry from Revit to reduce triangle counts.

The issue with 3ds Max is that it does not support Revit lighting properly. There's also issue with materials conversion that were promised to be eventually fixed. I've documented the Revit IES lighting conversion issues here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=79820

If this can be fixed, we could have a nice pipeline from Revit to 3ds Max to Octane. Then you can created renders, 360 images, animations and VR/AR experiences using Octane light baking.

If Octane wants to compete with Enscape, Vray and other user friendly Revit software, they will need to actually invest in proper Revit development and change the snail pace of development on this software branch.
