Marten74 wrote: I still can´t open IES files (.ies). Is it supposed to work in the plugin? In the stand alone I can open my .ies files with the floatimage node (textures/images/floatimage). I opened Mib2berlins test scene (thanks for sharing the file). I can see that there is a .IES file loaded in to a floatimage node that focus the light beam. I can´t control the angle of the beam though. When I try to open my own .ies-files through Mibs node, I see no files... I renamed one from *.IES to *.ies with no success (long shot). What can be wrong since I have it working in the external renderer?
I can't speak for the rest of the issues, but I did find a way to load an IES file into an Octane Float Image Tex block. When you click the button to load an image you'll see buttons along the top of the window that are used for filtering the file types. One of the buttons looks like it has a funnel image on it. Clicking that button toggles the file type (image, movie, sound, etc) filtering. If you click the aforementioned button to disable filtering, you can then load an IES file. From there it can be applied as the distribution for an Octane Texture Emission. From the little bit of testing I did, it appeared to work fine.

Best of luck.

Thanks ephdot, that was the trick!

A wish: I notice that the orientation of the ies-light is not dependent of the emitter objects orientation. I can rotate the emitter plane, but the cone of light still point in the direction set by the orientation in the texture node. When I think about it, that was something that annoyed me in the stand alone to, but then I did not have the direct control over the emitter object as I do inside of Blender. It would be so much easier if 0 rotation in the texture node would orient along the normal of the lamp/emitter plane. This would mean that you easily append and orient a spotlight model without the need to fiddle around with the, not so intuitive, orientation controls in the texture emission node.

I tried installing these both, but when I try to run BlenderOctane, I get an error saying that its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Any suggestions? I can't seem to figure out what is wrong.

If Blender reports an error on startup, please install the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package. 32bit / 64bit
This is copied from Blender.org download page.
I had the the same problem one time.

Cheers, mib.

BUG REPORT :

1. Create a new scene
2. Unwrap the cube (or not. It really makes no difference)
3. Assign a glossy shader to it
4. Assign a turbulence texture to bump
5. Assign scale to turbulence
6. Play with the scale and watch what happens!

Only the first number out of three scales along all axis, the others simply don't work! You have no control over the axis

Hi Jim,

As Blender Plugin is still in beta stage, i don't use it a lot, sorry for that, i'm not the best beta tester hahahaha !
Anyway, today i was asking myself if "border region" was working in blender plugin , since this is an awaited feature since years now.
And OH GOD !!!! , what a surprise when i see it working on the viewport you cannot imagine my joy ! ... hahahaa !
Then ARF ! ... I calm down when i hited F12, the render region just dont' work in rendering mode ( and it's the most important part to me ) ...

i really don't understand why is it working on viewport but not in rendering window SNIFF!!! Any Plan about that?

Thanks

Hi vinz, the border render in the plugin is a fake, it render the whole image but show the border only.
So you don´t save render time but it is still helpful and I use it often.
Until the standalone don´t support "real" border render it is a workaround for us.

Cheers, mib.
