SSS Max problem + texture info

the max plugin is working well, no complaints... I just have one BIG problem SSS

1) SSS issue

through trial and error I finally got SSS to work in the standalone version, quite well actually, but I can NOT with the max plugin, changing the transmission and medium settings/ colors has no effect at all!

the issue I had with standalone was the incorrect scaling/ units, I had to set it to meters and scaling then it started working, so it's really important to get the scaling right apparently

but now with max, if I have units set to meters and scale a human character realistically at around 2m height for example, SSS has NO effect at all... how do I ensure the scaling is correct??

2) textures info

thanks for adding the info just what I needed, but could you tell me what the limit is for each item 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 <-- for a gtx 580 for example? is it 64/64/32/32 ??

1) What material do you use (Diffuse/Specular)?
2) I don't have right information about this. You can make a test to find a limit.

re SSS I use the following, with the right scaling it works really well in standalone, but does nothing in Max:

output is mix material, which consists of a diffuse + glossy material, the diffuse uses transmission containing a red color, the glossy contains a medium also containing a red color, those should give the skin a reddish SSS effect, but there's no SSS effect at all, let me know if you need a screenshot

I have made an example.
SSS box in the scene should have 1m x 1m x 1m size for correct result.

Karba thx for that simple scene..but i need to know 1 thing, is it possible to feel the SSS effect using Direct light and AO? if so would u mind sharing the same simple scene with DL and AO? im trying out this scene as it is and it only works with either DL, DIFF or just PT.
