20013 v..
works stable - if you don't do a lot of changes while the render viewport engine is on

but one issue - the 3dmax viewport is a lot more slower, it's choppy, takes a lot more to select and rotate around when rendering..
when turned off it's fine.. using directlight (now saving with 3200x3200 px before with 800x800 it was the same)
I am in the middle of doing a project and I am using the 2013 now until I finish it, since it's as stable and usable as 2012 version,
only the viewport issue - anyone else got that problem - the scene has 13 000 polys, real small, same scene in v 2012 3dmax viewport performs better..

..and there are no material previews of anything, maps and textures are all black - I've gotten used to it so I't would be a great surprise if it started working :)
loaded the scene saved from 2012 though

Also - I hate the HDRI environment workflow, I don't even want to test something with it since its a bit of a pain in the ass compared to octane standalone..
it should be connected to the Octane daylight object - just put a load texture box and sliders from octane..

well I got used to the HDRI setup one from standalone, I am having trouble finding it each time..
how to rotate the HDRI and what is the correct workflow? I didn't check if there was anything in the manual..

also I always save from the render viewport - and that doesn't save the alpha info into .png.. is that going to be stuck like that..
I mean I love the fact you can do a lot more with nodes and all in 3dmax, but then switching to standalone gets me working faster, only thing is as soon as I start to use nodes in standalone I switch back to max :) ..

update, the materials now show up in material preview boxes.. it was the loaded from 2012 to 2013 scene that had an issue

but the movement in the max viewport is too slow when render window running.. did anyone try 2013 max version (I liked the fact it has cloth simulation now working on the gpu - just testing it works fine when turning off the gpu youre working on)
also IES not working?

Do you use this texture?
If so, what is wrong with it?
It is the same as standalone one.

ok I use this
I use Rendering > environments, set texture environment, and then drag and drop that to the map and load hdri from that..

i forgot the workflow as soon as I tried it.. i have to write it down :)

OK
now it loads rgb but doesn't load HDRI or jpg in 2013
on 2012 I only managed to load .jpg as environment and rgb ..

A quick question:
Since the Max plugin has evolved to the point where it is really a practical alternative to the standalone for me (and a fantastic tool!), I am not using the standalone version much any more.

Does updating to the latest standalone (currently on beta 2.52) provide any benefit to the plugin or can I ignore the standalone updates? The plugin interacts with the standalone doesn't it?

Thank you.

You don't need to update your standalone version. plugin contains all information inside itself.

Hi Karba,

could you add time stamp count down on the toolbar? Every time I have to do a manual subtraction...:)

Regarding resolution would benice if you add a lock for proportional frame buffer scaling, then a button for 1x1 zoom..

My final renders are about A4 in landscape (3507x2480). Every time I have to calculate manually a downsized preview.

If you add a constrain proportion lock I can resize the Octane fb that matches always my camera frame.

Regards.

Issue:

If I try to place a material from liveDB into a material slot which is part of a multi-material then my multi-material and all other slots get replaced. This results in a loss of all other multi-mats.
