everything was going fine, until I changed from one scene to another... had octane paused and then restarted it, but it was loading the old mesh, so I hit reload mesh, this caused a severe crash
since then octane does not load properly with anything other than very simple scenes
1) it will either just render black even with a light source in the scene
2) or when i click on the 'octane' button it does nothing
3) or sometimes i click it seems to load, but it's loading until it runs out of memory and crashes??
I tried copying over the plugin files and restarting max and the computer. Problem continues. Please help!!
crash + stability problems? memory leak?

Close octane viewport before you will change a scene.petermax wrote:everything was going fine, until I changed from one scene to another... had octane paused and then restarted it, but it was loading the old mesh, so I hit reload mesh, this caused a severe crash

Probably I have to make it changing automatically.
yes, I will certainly do that from now on but how do I fix my current problems?
I can no longer work with the plugin currently, it constantly crashes max!
I managed to load up the test scene, see screenshot and this is what I get, it's completely mangled geometry.
The only thing I can think of is re-install max and the plugin? Would I have to re-install the standalone version as well?

Hm, that is strange. Did you change anything before it starts to happen?petermax wrote:yes, I will certainly do that from now on but how do I fix my current problems?

the only thing I can recall doing was moving a scene from one folder to another and I had to add some more paths for max to find textures
then as I said I changed one of the scenes with the Octane view port open, updated geometry then -> crash
since then I have not being able to work with the plugin
will going back to an earlier version work?
btw that geometry you see there in the test shot, seems to be merged geometry of a scene I had loaded prior and it somehow combined them, even though I had loaded only the test scene in place of the old (not merged)... it does not seem to have removed the old geometry somehow or parts of it??

Can you try to press to button with red circles and arrows?petermax wrote:why would it not load the viewport at all?? sometimes I click and it does not do anything at all?
it's starting to do really crazy stuff, like rendering only a quarter of the scene
I really need some help with this!!
You can use middle mouse button to navigate viewport.
yes I can still move the object around in those cases... have not tried the center button
what does it mean when I click on it and nothing happens, it does not even attempt to open, there's no memory activity? over the texture limit or something wrong with the geometry?

ok, I think I fixed the problem!
The problem was a piece of geometry generated by a plugin, which Octane does not handle at all.
Cloned it to a new layer. Turned off rendering for the layer containing the original.
Octane loading the scene, no problem!
Not jumping for joy just yet, but it's looking good so far

I mean you can navigate octane viewport (shift and scale), not 3dsmax one.petermax wrote:yes I can still move the object around in those cases... have not tried the center button
