@big_jimmy : I think that the smooth parameter is enabled in your original Blender file. If you export again with the option Write material into OCS file, the smooth flag is set as it is in the Blend file each time;

The write material into OCS should imho be used only for the initial export.

Once the materials are set up, further exports for animation mustn't modify the materials, and this "Write material into OCS file" option must be disabled.

Also, using smooth for flat surfaces always give bad results and black artifacts. Even in Blender itself. Usually, smooth must be used only on meshes with at least a sufsurf level of 1.

Any idea about my animation/export problem ?

My project is in standby for more than a week, and I am still stuck.

I would really need an interpretation of the console message... (please read previous posts).

The only thing I can think of is that the API changed in 2.63a. Revert back to a prior version and try again (for example I'm using 2.62 without bmesh and 1.13 exporter - and it works ok)

@ROUBAL, thanks for your help - will try, but I think that these objects are set to flat shading anyway. Humph!

I guess if all else fails I'll edit the export scripts and see if I can find the smooth property and turn it off in the generation of the octane input files.

Good luck with your own export problem...

Just download the latest version of the importer

go to addins, then add a new addin - select the zip file containing all of the .py files

it should return you to the addin dialog, you then need to scroll down and enable the octane addin

Once that's done you'll have Octane listed as a render option, but you;ll need to setup the path to your Octane executable

Watch the video below it goes into some detail on how to set up after this stage
