Yeah the sampling tooltips ;)
I first reported that on 26 August 2010....
One of a number of things we hope they get around to some time before hell freezes over :P
I would rather have instances first though, not that that seems likely soon either

^ Seriously? You don't find copy/paste or the texture node separate preview useful? Parent a plane to your camera, set it an emitting material or IES and you have a flash.

Now a bit more nagging: what I really miss from the big features bag are not instances, but (object) motion blur. I guess that this effect is dependent on Octane being able to distinguish objects, ie. it needs the same re-working that instances do, before it can be implemented, am I right? It wold be possible to know a rough estimate on when motion blur could be ready? It's even in the plans?

Ok, with toolkit 4.0 Octane seems much more stable.
When I delete render target I've the same error:

Tnx in advanced.

Hey guys, this is a test release of a ALPHA software, Refractive call it BETA but it is not (Beta means: All final features included).
I have no crash with it on many tests, use cuda 4.0.
Some new features, the render kernel is faster on some indoor renders, fine.

Cheers, mib.

I totally agree with you. I'm not using Octane anymore because I mainly work on animations, and without motion blur, it's useless. Alembic support would be great too by the way :)

oh dear. I have only just spotted the 2.58 release because everytime I come to the forum the whole thing is plastered with spam so I immediately close the browser down.

Well, I am very busy these days, and I have just found time to test the new release, but the new features list is deceptive.

The only realy important improvement I see from my own workflow point of view is the Z depth Max cursor.

I don't care of nodes features and I don't use them. I also never use the online database. I don't use nodes mainly because I usually work on so heavy scenes that the screen would be full filled at 5% of the project, and it is really easier for me to work in the materials inspector.

Copy/Paste values is fine, but would be better if we didn't have to click in the field and select the value to copy or paste (Much faster in Blender), and also it doesn't work on color boxes. Also Undo/Redo is very basic in all softwares and not yet present in Octane.

The most deceptive part and what I'm really waiting for ages is Instances, shadow Catcher, Shadow Caster, and No shadow materials...

Added to that, I encountered a file format error on textures in ocs files made with the previous release... The hdr environment is not loaded.

I also want to report a problem that already occured on previous releases : after loading a mesh, if you just click on the mesh node, nothing happens in most cases on big scenes (small scenes seem to work fine), and sometimes a crash occurs. To make sure that the render will start, it is necessary to keep the left mouse key pressed until the render actually starts in the render window.

So, thank you for this release, but after that long waiting time, I would have expected a bit more, or at least some informations about instances implementation.

I second that. Object motion blur and the ability to "scale it" are top feature requirements for me at the moment. Keep up the good work ;]
