uuuh, that hurts!
SCNR
Yes I wish we could use the 3DS Max Octane plugin but right now it is just too buggy. I hope in the future that it will work better. With OctanePowerTools we were able to export the whole scene and render a 27 second video in 10 minutes with Octane Standalone and the PowerTools together. Would be nice if Refractive Software could team up with the OctanePowerTools to make a better solution either for 3DS Max or even just Octane Standalone.

I am not too happy that I bought 2 full licenses of Octane and the 3DS Max plugin and Refractive Software claims that the full animation features work inside Max with Octane plugin and they clearly do not. The Octane for 3DS Max plugin is extremely buggy at this point and crashed 3DS Max so much. When it does finally render a range of frames for an animation half of them come out filled with noise so it has a been a big waste of my time and money to buy the 3DS Max plugin when I should have just bought the Octane Standalone version along with OctanePowerTools to begin with.

Refractive Software should really state on there website that the 3DS Max plugin for Octane is not capable of rendering full featured animations using the 3DS Max tools. Even using backburner there are still huge problems. I hope they can fix these issues soon otherwise I have 2 licenses of 3DS Max Octane plugin that I cannot use. :(
Actually only you and one or two user more have this issue. I had to place in my computer 3 more videocards to reproduce that bug. I try to fix it as soon as possible.

Have you tried a last version WITHOUT backburner what I sent to you yesterday?

Hello,

Actually I think it certainly because of the large architectural scene we are working with that we are having these issues with the 3DS Max plugin for Octane. I am sure as Karba has said that with most scenes the Octane plugin for 3DS Max works great.

Karba, I did try the latest patch but it does not seem to work. I will reply to your PM with more details.

This is very sad to hear that only few users meeting problem with octane for max. Actually this guy have 3 machines and in each of his (nrygpu) machines he meeting the same problem I do too. Its freezing rendering after passing few frames. And as I told before My night rendering become nightmare, cos In the morning I see rendering friezed at the 3-5frame instead of 150. VERY disapointed (two weeks of testing this bug I can write 200pages about what I tried to do and about all my experiments, I didn`t meet max crashes as much as rendering frames range issue.)

!!This is important and adressed 2 Karba!!
Actually IF OctaneRender viewport COULD save an image after it`s reached maxsamples limit to the custom folder automatic, then go to the next frame, update geometry(round green arrow button) and save the image after it`s reached maxsamples limit to the custom folder automatic with 001,002,003 in the and of the each next frame name. That would make me the happiest CG artist in the world. Cos this way It will become possible to render animations without baby-seating waiting rendering freeze
Oh and updating scene for each next frame must be an optional for the fly-through, it will same hours also

I believe for the cod-masters who work at octane it is not big deal to make what I am asking. But it will be soooooooooooo useful!

PS yes its cheap price for wonderful engine, thank you very much for this product and for this price, and yes it`s BETA. And yes as an artist I am getting results i could only dream about with V...wiht another rendering engines

PS can you please send me last last version too?

But the plugin does exactly this. When I do an animation with Octane I save every single frame after XYZ samples to a folder and make it a movie afterwards.

The plugin is suppose to does this but in fact rendering freezing after 5-10 frames rendered. You should read few pages to discover details of this problem.

Are you rendering animations without problem? Please tell me
1 what hardware do you have (what is the factory of GPU as palit, msi, evga, zotac ect)
2 How many polygons in your animation scene
3 how much video memory octane using during you animation rendering (GPU-z giving answer) and what is the highest temperature of the GPU
4 are you using textures and HDR
5 how much frames do you have in your animation frames range

P.S. right now I am rendering animation in grey diffuse material with no lighting, basically its AO pass with DirectLight kernel and so far it going good and phenomenal 54 frames rendered without stuck (I could not render more then 3-5 frames before rendering process stuck with HDRI and textures)
Please let me know. Thnx

I'm not often rendering a lot to be honest. Mostly around several hundred frames.
This is what I did for example and it worked nice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaUx96ki ... ature=plcp

1 what hardware do you have (what is the factory of GPU as palit, msi, evga, zotac ect)
Two 580GTX from Gainward with 3GBVram

2 How many polygons in your animation scene
From 80k to 3millions

3 how much video memory octane using during you animation rendering (GPU-z giving answer) and what is the highest temperature of the GPU
Around 1.0-2.5GB
4 are you using textures and HDR
Textures yes, no HDR. But will test soon with a product animation

5 how much frames do you have in your animation frames range
From several hundreds to several thousand.

You get crashes with PMC only or also DL kernel?

This is so so weird. I am starting to think about my Palit cards. Is it possible to send you my scene for a testing. If you have a time for this ofcourse. In my case on 2 gtx580 its taking under 7 min per frame and I had 15 frames rendered maximum without stuck. Could be interesting if your Gainwards cards can render 20 or more frames without problems. Then I will be in trouble to sell 3 of mine Palits gtx580

And yes I tried all kernels but I use DL actually as a rule

PS nice animations but I can say your solar panel roof looks too tricky, I would use Curve editor to set tangents to auto to make all movements smooth. Just my opinion.

a way to test if the cards are maybe faulty is, to install msi afterburner and clock them down as much as possible. if this changes something, it might be the cards...
The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply

Hey I did it! I lowered clocks to the values you told is factory, cos looks like Palit is making them a bit higher. It lowered temp a bit but no success in solving rendering stuck

First of all @t_3

I did nothing with my cards but if you saying they over-clocked then looks like its Palit strategy. Anyway I lowered core clock to 700mhz, and the vram clock to 1800mhz (using stock voltage) as you told on both of cards. I used nVidia control panel->performance->device settings->custom->your settings
(third card was overheating, too close to each other, middle card replaced until getting PCIe riser)

So it gave nothing. After PC reboot I tried to render animation and rendering freezes after 8 frames. After Cancelling and starting render from the 8th frame it fails again after 2 frames on 10th frame and so on

But anyway thnx for try! http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... 5&start=20
